Stupid Chase Sapphire Commercial

I’m sitting around right now watching TV and I just saw that stupid commercial for the Chase Sapphire card, where a spoiled wife walks in wearing a new dress, and her pussy husband starts suggesting they trade their points in for all these awesome looking vacations. Only to find out that the wife already blew the points for said dress. The husband’s reaction isn’t anger, but glee. What an idiotic commercial!

Apparently there are a lot of other people who take issue with the commercial. Check out this vid, which shows the commercial but with an ending that makes more sense.

Weekend in Cali. Part 2: Orochon was a fail.

Here’s Orochon Ramen. I found out about the place on Man vs. Food and even though I think Adam Richman is a total douchebag, I still enjoy watching the show from time to time. And after seeing the episode at Orochon Ramen, I really wanted to check the place out.

A lot of the reviews on Yelp said that the place was overrated, and not very good. I believed them, but still had to try it for myself.

When we got there, we had to wait about 15 minutes. After that, we ended up sitting outdoors in the sun, and shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers.

Anyway, in the pic above, you see all the people standing outside? All the white people, in particular? Yep that many white people in front of an ethnic restaurant usually means the food’s not that great.

And as good as it looks, it really wasn’t that great. The noodles kind of tasted like cheap chinese egg noodles. I ordered the #2 spicy bowl (#1 being the hottest) and it wasn’t anything special. Just go to any ramen place, dump chili powder in it, and that’s pretty much what you get.

If you’re curious, the “challenge” on Man vs. Food is to eat the whole thing, soup and all, in half an hour. I don’t remember if I’ve ever drank all the soup in Ramen. (Don’t people in Japan think you’re weird if you do that?) I didn’t even want to bother trying, either, since we were sitting out in the sun on a relatively hot day.

Anyway, I thought the place sucked, but it was still something I had to do. Thanks for nothing, Man vs. Food!

To add to the irony, we were seated next to a non-asian family who apparently also heard about the place from the TV show. I overheard them talking about how good the noodles were, and how the soup was among the best that the dad’s ever had at a restaurant. They obviously don’t eat Ramen very often, because I put the food at Orochon slightly below the stuff you get at Ezogiku back home — the one near University, not the one in Waikiki.

I really miss Tenkaippen now.

..And again, if you wanna see all the pics from the trip, here they are.

#1 Most Annoying Commercial!

This damn commercial is one of the most annoying I’ve ever seen. I just saw it on TV while watching Jimmy Fallon. I’ve seen it before, but never realized how much I hate it.

Did Apple put this commercial out? Because the parts where they both yell out “BLU RAAAY!!” and where the mom goes “WHAAAT?!” make me want to never buy a PC.

That, and I don’t really take what an 11-year old thinks very seriously, either.

Short rant: Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

After waiting one week to get a shipping label and then finally sending it out yesterday, UPS says that the expected delivery date that MS will get my redringed 360 will be another 5 days to cross three states.

That’s about two weeks before they even get to repair the thing.

Looks like Microsoft is skimping as much on delivering their failed product back to their repair center as they did building the thing in the first place. Thanks, guys!

Random update: My Xbox redringed (again), out of town visitors, and other random happenstance

It’s been a while since I last updated - We had out of town visitors last week, and spent a few days hanging out with them. We ended staying downtown over at the California, ate lots of buffet food, and I did a lot of reading (I finished Breaking Dawn [and subsequently, the Twilight series], and started reading another book called Greasy Rider.

It was fun, and a little hectic. Coming home almost felt like a vacation, except we came home to a hot, stagnant house with dishes still in the sink. It’s all good now, though.

I’ve been taking it easy this week. My Xbox redringed again a week ago and it took about one week for me to receive the shipping label (like I mentioned before, though, they stopped sending a box for you to send it in, so I had to find a spare box and buy some bubble wrap). It’ll take probably another month or so. Good times.

Not much else to write about right now. I finished reading Greasy Rider this morning. It was good; it was about a guy who buys a car, converts it to run on vegetable oil, and drives cross country with an old college friend on a sort of environmental quests, making stops along the way.

In other news, I started looking for a car. You know, I’ve never owned my own car before in my life… I’ve owned about eleven motorcycles (I should sit down and get pictures one day), but not one car.

Damn this dessert heat.

This is what we’re up for this week:

At least it looks like things are going to cool down some on Friday! ALL RIGHT! (not).

UH loco moco is no good any more.

Evan and I went to UH for breakfast this morning. I needed to eat a loco moco from there again. Anyway, it’s all different now. They renamed the grill and the order forms are completely different. I don’t think the cooks are Marriott employees like before, either.

And the loco mocos come in cups now.

It was sad times, man. I’ve eaten loco mocos fro there hundreds of times, and now it’s all gone! Oh well, life goes on.

Badasia update: Kuala Lumpur (& Singapore)

Badasia time: Wed 6/17. 9:49am

After about four days in Singapore, we got back to Malaysia on Sunday night. We’re staying at another uncle’s place in Kuala Lumpur now (Oh yeah, I have a whole lot of uncles and aunts here; my mom’s from a family of 13 kids who all took different paths in life, and most are still here in Malaysia).

My uncle here is really cool guy. The dude went to college in Arizona and grew his hair really long and probably partied every single night. He has some crazy stories. When he came back to Malaysia, he grew up, got responsible, got married, and has a great family with three kids and a maid who can cook awesome curry.

He also has an internet connection.

Anyway, Singapore was interesting. We stayed with our mom most of the time helping her get stuff done, but there was one night when Evan and I went out to somewhere called Boat Quay, where my cousin told us there were a bunch of pubs. There, we wandered around and drank at random places until we winded up at this pub full of local Singaporeans and Karaoke.

Their english song selection was pretty limited. They didn’t have Eve6 or Poison, but we managed to find some Journey and Bon Jovi (good songs, but way too hard to sing, so I usually never do). Evan and I sang and made complete [American] assholes of ourselves. It was good times.

I think I like going out at night in Asia more - somehow it just seems different. I had the same feeling when we went out in Hong Kong and Taiwan. I think it’s because people get less rowdy, and seem a lot nicer (I guess it helps that we look just like them here though). While we were at that Karaoke place, some random drunk girl ran up to me and made me switch drinks with her (give me back my beer, bitch!). Later on, the manager of the place also came to talk with us. When we told him we were heading to KL next, he told us was from there and wrote down a bunch of things for us to check out.

Oh yeah, and later in the night he gave us free drinks. (then again he probably overcharged us for our first few rounds when he heard me speaking American).

Oh yeah part 2, he also gave me his phone number. Hey guys! I got a phone number!

Anyway, Singapore was fun. On our last night there, we went with our mom to the Night Safari, which cost upwards of $20US, but was really cool because you could sit on a tram and watch nocturnal animals out and about.

But anyway. Like I said, we’re back in Malaysia now, in Kuala Lumpur. My uncle took us to this Japanese buffet for dinner last night and I ate a bunch of a sashimi and about 15 oysters. In typical ‘the-fongs-have-no-luck’ fashion, I took a gamble and lost. I started paying for those oysters about an hour after we got home. I hit the crapper about four times last night and the only reason I haven’t gone today is because my stomach’s got nothing left to give. It was worth it, though! (okay maybe it wasn’t worth it).

May 15th, 2009

I’m back in Hawaii.

So my flight was supposed to leave at 2:30 yesterday morning. Around 2:31, I was wondering why no one was boarding, and an announcement came up apologizing and stating that our flight would be delayed until 8:30.

Apparently something was wrong with our plane and ‘for our safety’, they were going to wait for the next one to come in.

On hearing that, I walked over to the bookstore and bought a copy of The Last Templar, which I hadn’t heard of before, but who’s cover touted that it was being adapted for an NBC TV series. I thought it’d be a nice, easy, trashy read.

It wasn’t. The book was poorly paced and boring at times. Thanks for nothing! I read it for most of the 6 hour delay, but toward the end, I put the book down and blew a few dollars on the airport video poker machines.

Anyway, I’m back home now! At least until Tuesday. There’s a lot of stuff mom needs help with - and I never realized how cluttered our house is. I really took for granted how much neater of a person Kerri’s made me (even though I’ve still got a long way to go).

Our washing machine is still broken (followup)

So our washing machine broke a little over three weeks ago. Since then, two different repair guys came and neither one fixed it. The last one said that they were going to call the Property manager to see what they wanted to do. That was last Wednesday.

I was wondering what was taking so long so I just called the Property managers. They said they hadn’t heard anything from that last company. Uhhh….. looks like our washing machine’s going to be broken a little while longer.

If nothing else, though, the washing machine at least still fills with water and spin-dries at the end. So I’ve been kind of doing laundry by hand in the machine (letting it fill, then mixing it manually). Not as bad as when mom had to wash everything in a small plastic basin and washboard in Malaysia, but still.
