PWN3D story of the day

I was playing Battlefield and this dude rolls up in a tank and I’m like “holy crap I’m going to die!” so I’m running around trying to dodge shells. Then his tank gets damaged so he jumps out to do repairs. While this is happening, I run right up to the now empty tank and reverse it over him and one of his boyfriends and kill them both. AWW YEAH PWN3D!! USA! USA! USA!

Thanksgiving, and Degenerates who go clubbing on that night.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and my only excuses are my own laziness and the near simultaneous releases of Modern Warfare 2 and the second Assassin’s Creed game. It’s ridiculous! In a good way.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I always thought it was weird about how it kind of celebrates the first time a bunch of immigrants came to America and took it over from the people already living here. Kerri went back to Hawaii for the weekend and I’ve been up here alone.

On Thanksgiving night, I went over to Reid’s for dinner, drank lots of beer, passed out on his couch, and woke up a few hours later. I think Reid passed out around the same time too, and woke up about 20 minutes after me.

He actually had to work that night, though. I asked him if I could head down to the club because I was curious to see what kind of degenerates go clubbing on Thanksgiving night (then again, there was that time that me, Yen and David met up with a bunch of the other guys at Oceans on Thanksgiving night a couple of years ago).

The club was about half full, and most of the staff looked pretty bored. I met these old broads who were in town from Arizona - one of them turned 40 that night and she was there with her sister and her sister’s daughter.

I also met 2 girls and a guy who didn’t look like they were American. From the way they were dancing, I assumed that the cuter girl and the guy were a couple, so I asked the other girl who was dancing alone where they were from. She said they were from Columbia and Bolivia or something like that.

Later on, I saw the cuter girl sitting by herself. I went up to her and asked where her boyfriend went.

And she goes: “Oh that’s not my boyfriend! That’s my cousin!”

Damn South Americans.

Good times all in all. Other than that, I’m glad I’m feeling better again after nearly a month being sick. Just in time to..uh..stay home and play video games, I guess. MODERN WARFARE 2 FTW!

Stupid Chase Sapphire Commercial

I’m sitting around right now watching TV and I just saw that stupid commercial for the Chase Sapphire card, where a spoiled wife walks in wearing a new dress, and her pussy husband starts suggesting they trade their points in for all these awesome looking vacations. Only to find out that the wife already blew the points for said dress. The husband’s reaction isn’t anger, but glee. What an idiotic commercial!

Apparently there are a lot of other people who take issue with the commercial. Check out this vid, which shows the commercial but with an ending that makes more sense.

#1 Most Annoying Commercial!

This damn commercial is one of the most annoying I’ve ever seen. I just saw it on TV while watching Jimmy Fallon. I’ve seen it before, but never realized how much I hate it.

Did Apple put this commercial out? Because the parts where they both yell out “BLU RAAAY!!” and where the mom goes “WHAAAT?!” make me want to never buy a PC.

That, and I don’t really take what an 11-year old thinks very seriously, either.

Got the Xbox back.

My Xbox is home. The UPS guy that dropped it off was a guy around my age.

“Xbox!” he said, when I opened the door.

“All right!” I said.

“Repair?”

“Yep”

“Dang everybody’s been having problems” he started. He told me he’s been delivering a lot of 360’s back to their owners, and told me that it’s just some magnet that falls off and that you just need to open it up and superglue it back to fix it.

Uh…thanks, UPS guy. I think.

postscript: I just opened up the box and noticed that there’s nothing to indicate that it contained and Xbox or that it even came from Microsoft. I guess the UPS guy just delivered so many that he can recognize the shipping container

Bad News! Reading Rainbow is coming to an end!

NPR Reports that Reading Rainbow is coming to an end after 26 years.

Man what a bummer. I mean, I know I haven’t watched the show in about twenty years, but I’m still a little sad about it. The show was a huge part of my childhood; it was one of the few shows that mom would tune in for us.

Tomorrow’s kids will never have it as good.

Short rant: Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

After waiting one week to get a shipping label and then finally sending it out yesterday, UPS says that the expected delivery date that MS will get my redringed 360 will be another 5 days to cross three states.

That’s about two weeks before they even get to repair the thing.

Looks like Microsoft is skimping as much on delivering their failed product back to their repair center as they did building the thing in the first place. Thanks, guys!

Weekend update: Kerri’s birthday, how much I miss poke, and a book called “I Love Yous are for White People”

Kerri turned 27 this past week. For dinner, we all met up at BWW and had some hot wings.

The rest of the week was pretty tame. I stayed at home for the most part and wasted my time playing Prototype, and then Red Faction, Guerilla. They were both decent, but I guess I was hoping for a little more. I was actually looking forward to Red Faction; I played one of the earlier RF games all the time when it was out on the PS2. The new one was…decent, but not enough to hold my interest for more than a few days. Plus, I hate multiplayer achievements (another reason why I think COD4 is one of the best games ever made, and I hope Modern Warfare 2 continues with the the no-online-achievements tradition).

My Xbox also red ringed a few days ago, so I had to port my profile over to Kerri’s console and I’ve been playing in the bedroom. The console’s right at the tail end of the 3 year warranty, but unlike the first time it bricked, I have to find my own box to ship the thing up to MS now. This would have been a lot easier if I were still living in Hawaii.

In other news, the weather’s been slightly cooler this past weekend, thanks apparently to some storm system around California right now. It dropped all the way down to the low 90’s, which meant that we didn’t have to use the AC yesterday. We also took a walk up and down the strip, stopping at good ol’ Casino Royale so I could double fist it with $1 Michelob’s. That stuff’s nasty!

Kerri had a hankering for poke today, and I realized I did too. When I was back in Hawaii, I didn’t really have too much, except this one time Lane and I went to Champions, and that other time, at Joel’s company party, which they let me crash. Kerri heard about this new place that opened, so we took a half hour drive up north.

The poke there was about $10-11/lb, which is a little more, but the stuff was really good. Plus, they had limu in their poke, which is way better than the chopped-fish-salad we tried back at L&L when we first moved here.

Other than that, it’s been a pretty tame weekend. The last time we were at the library, Kerri picked up this book called I Love Yous are for White People, based on the title, and I was reading it yesterday and just finished this afternoon. Real good read. It’s a memoir written by a guy about my age who escapes Vietnam with his family as a child, and grows up in LA. The guy’s been through a lot, and seems to have made so much out of himself despite all the opportunities he’s had in life to mess up. Shame on me!

Chandler is a n00b.

Get this - Matthew Perry hurt his hand playing Fallout 3. Should’a used a stimpak.

Seriously though, who the hell hurts their hand playing Fallout 3? Did he never use VATS? The instant-warp to previously visited areas? Or even the pause button? The game’s awesome, but I don’t know how you could hurt your hand playing it.. unless you don’t know how to hold the controller.

I can’t help but wonder how many achievement points he unlocked on that game. I’m guessing it’s not too many. Anyone know his gamertag?

(To Chandler’s credit, though: I know firsthand how you can end up playing too much video games when you don’t have a job)

L word got pwn3d.

I wrote a while back about my disappointment with the series finale of The L Word. I also read back then that a spinoff was in the making. Hopefully, this won’t be the case, as reported at hollywoodreporter.com.

The show started off as well written and original but started to get really annoying after a few seasons. Toward the last episodes, the thought that “this is finally going to be over” kept me more interested than any of the nudity. I’m glad Showtime’s decided not to follow through with the spin off and has decided not to reward poor quality. (Sidenote: the spinoff would have been about Alice in prison, so I guess she’s the one who killed Jenny? Either that or she was the one who set the fire to Shane’s shop. I wouldn’t have cared either way).
