Michelina’s TV Dinner FTW!

So I’m still working the night shift. 8pm until 3:30am. Ocassionally on slower news days, we have just enough time to jet over to Don’s to pick up some food during our 2am lunch break.

After eating more than my share of S&S and other instant noodles, I started giving TV dinners a try. Banquet brand tv dinners were on ’sale’ for 2 for $3 (I found out later that’s their normal price, and they just wrote it on a sign that said “SALE!”) Through trial and error, I found that the salisbury steak was good-enough and it became my old standby.

I also have a bottle of tobasco sauce at my desk. It was from this one afternoon (when I was still back on the day shift) and I bought a loco moco for lunch but they ran out of theirs, so I had to stop at the Korean market to pick up my own.

Anyway, for this morning’s lunch break, we ended up going to Walmart instead. And I decided to try a new brand. And dude, it was a WIN!

Michelina’s only cost .50 cents more than the Banquet stuff. I got the salisbury steak so I could make a comparison, and … It. Tasted. Awesome. The beef patty didn’t taste like fried gel that got squirted out of a tube. I could taste the onions and other ingredients in it. Almost like somebody actually made it!

I was so impressed by the stuff that I did some digging on the net. According to this story by Associated Content (whatever that is), the company was started by the son of Italian immigrants who was born during the Depression. He named the company after his mother, who’s recipes were behind the original meals.

I think just I’m flipping out right now because I’ve paid a lot more for food that tasted a lot less impressive. That, and because I don’t really get out much nowadays.

Anyway, the salisbury steak was good. I can’t wait to go back and try the fetuccini and the stroganoff! (holy shit my life IS sad!)

My first day off in 16 days.

It’s about 1:30pm. I woke up not too long ago. I got off of work a little after 4am this morning. My back to back double shifts are behind me, as well as 16 straight days of work.

It’s finally over. (for now?)

The last two days with the 8:30pm-4am/10am-6pm/8:30pm-4am/10am-6pm/8:30pm-4am schedules were pret-ty bad. I found I couldn’t walk straight and was bumping into walls. So I didn’t trust myself on the bike and caught the bus to work in the day. My sleeping, eating, and showering schedule have all been really messed up.

But I think things are back to normal now. Kinda.

So I got today and tomorrow off. I’m just going to take it easy today, and then tomorrow night’s Halo night! As luck would have it, it feels like I’m also starting to get sick. What a kick in the sacks!

32 hours of work in 2 days.

A 60 hour week, followed by a 70 hour week at work. It’s finally dying down, but not before the ultimate test of my manhood this coming week; 2 double shift days in a row:
It is now 4:45am. I just got home. I’m going to report back to work in about 5 or 6 hours at 11am (or 10am, if I can wake up by then), work till 6 or 7pm, break for dinner, come back at 8:30pm, and then work until 4am.

Then I do the same thing all over again on Tuesday, then get Wednesday and Thursday off. This Wednesday will be my first day off after 16 straight days of work.

This is it, man. The home stretch. The next two days are going to really wreck my sanity; I can see it already. And I can’t wait to see what kind of whack dreams I’m going to start having! Nightmares, even!!!! WOOO!!! I’m not sure whether I’m excited, or terrified. BRING IT ON!! (Man I need sleep.)

been slackin off.

Damn it’s been over a month since I’ve posted anything. I’ve been slackin’ off! Or, at least, slackin’ off when I’m not at work. Work’s been pretty hectic lately; and I usually come home at the end of the day unwilling to stare at a computer screen any longer. The scariest part is that a lot of my coworkers are putting in even more time and effort that I am. I don’t know how they do it.

Anyway, I’ll get back on the ball.

Casual Friday

I just got through a week-long video training at work. It was a blast, and I had a great time. Training ended at noon on Friday, and I went back to my desk to start(/catch up) on work.

When I go back, one of my coworkers, who’s always wearing slacks, is wearing jeans. Another of my coworkers is wearing jeans and a tank top.

In my head, I’m going “what is this, casual Friday?”

Then I realized that it WAS. See, from the very first week I started, I’ve been on the Thurs/Fri night shift to train with the production crew. Yesterday was the first time I’ve been in the office on Friday in the day. MIND BLOWER!!!!
