It’s been a while since I’ve updated. I think the holiday season’s just been keeping me distracted and unfocused. That, and Guitar Hero. Kerri bought me GH3 for my birthday/Christmas.
My brother and I rocked out on that game like, every weekend and we liked it so much that we bought #2 a couple weeks later, just so that we could get the second guitar and play at the same time, instead of having one person play and the other stare. (and also so we could play ‘Surrender’)
Anyway, Kerri’s brother bought Rock Band yesterday. I brought my console over, and everybody played for a few hours last night. The game’s pretty fun, but I just wanted to play the guitar parts. I tried the drum, but I’m no good at it. I didn’t even bother to attempt the singing.
The fun ended last night, though. They tried playing the game again today, and the console just gave them a damaged disc error. The console scratched a ring around the disc! Joystiq actually called this one earlier this year, and apparently, my other games also got scratched, but Rock Band in particular is more susceptible to scratching than most games. The Washington Post reported a similar incident.
I emailed Microsoft about the problem, and if it’s going to be anything like it was the last time my xbox gave me problems, I’ll have to end up calling them on the telephone, then wait nearly 2 months before I have a playable console again (unless I buy another ‘backup’ console in the meantime, which seems borderline ridiculous to me).
What gets me is that the game was brand new just last night, and today it’s no good. And yes, the console was always placed horizontally and never moved. Thanks for nothing, Microsoft. That’s strike 2.
I will chronicle my subsequent dealings with Microsoft’s technical support in entries to follow. Stay tuned (or not).
