eBay you whores
Scott let me know the other day that eBay’s new policies are going to be totally lame to sellers. NPR also did a short piece on the new policies and how they affect sellers, in particular. Basically, if you’re a seller, and you get a real shitty buyer, the new policies make it even harder for you to leave negative feedback for them. They tried to rationalize it as a way to attract more buyers to eBay. Ironically enough, it’s only the sellers who really know about this new bullshit rule.
I used to buy and sell all kinds of stuff on eBay. A lot of it was crap that I didn’t need and have since forgotten about. But I did it because back then, browsing around on eBay was fun. Why? Because the place was full of people selling all kinds of stuff.
Over the past few years, eBay totally whored out, increased their listing fees, and I noticed that there were less and less individuals’ ‘garage-sale’ auctions, and more and more of that ‘online store’ bullshit.
In essence, eBay drove away the average, everyday seller, and in doing so, lost a LOT of buyers. I still go on the site every now and then, but not nearly as often as I used to, when browsing would lead to all kinds of surprises. Now the place is just full of ‘power sellers’ (a lot of them, stores who have shitty websites that don’t draw enough customers on their own, so they spam eBay with their inventory), and rising fees.
I used to buy all kinds of stuff on eBay. Now I just log on whenever I clear out my closet and need to sell things to make space. And now even that’s going to be more b.s. than it’s worth.
Thanks for nothing eBay, you whores! I hope your stock continues to drop! CRAIGSLIST FTW!!!
